The exterior is designed to read as three stories, though the bar itself runs two floors of live music with a rooftop on top. It is owned by the Kelly Companies, a restaurant group, rather than a celebrity.

The two music floors run the standard Broadway format of live bands and a party crowd, under a theme built around the idea of striking it lucky. The detail that separates it is the rooftop, which is not just a bar but a working restaurant, a Nashville hot chicken shack, so you can get an actual plate of the city’s signature dish without leaving the building. The bar also puts more effort into hand-crafted cocktails than the average honky-tonk. The crowd is the usual mix of tourists and bar-hoppers.

Lucky Bastard is a solid middle option: newer and cleaner than the old-guard honky-tonks, smaller and less overwhelming than the celebrity mega-bars.
