Germantown started as a German immigrant neighborhood in the 1850s. It’s now a mix of original residents, young professionals, restaurant-industry people, and a small contingent of tourists. The architecture is preserved Victorian row houses. The vibe is European old town.
Rolf and Daughters, 700 Taylor Street. Italian-influenced new-American. Hand-made pastas. Reservations 3 weeks out for weekends. Order the squid ink pasta.
Henrietta Red, 1200 4th Avenue North. Seafood-forward. Oyster bar at the front. Excellent cocktails.
City House, 1222 4th Avenue North. Italian-influenced, wood-fired. The pizza is famous.
Black Rabbit, 218 3rd Avenue North. Cocktail bar with food. One of the best bar programs in the city.
Bastion, 434 Houston Street. 30-seat tasting menu. One of the most ambitious kitchens in Nashville.
Six or eight reservations-worthy restaurants in a six-block radius. Broadway doesn’t have one.
Quieter than Broadway. Cocktail-forward. Peak hours 8 PM to midnight.
Black Rabbit’s bar. The headline cocktail bar.
Henrietta Red’s bar. Oyster bar with cocktails.
Geist, 311 Jefferson Street. Cocktail bar with kitchen. Slight dive energy.
Rolf and Daughters’ bar. Get there at 5 PM, sit at the bar, eat without a reservation.
A single evening, replacing one Broadway night.
Friday or Saturday dinner. Book 3 weeks out. Arrive 6 PM, drinks at the bar, table at 7, dinner until 9, cocktail bar 9:30, finish by 11.
Sunday brunch. Germantown does brunch well. Rolf and Daughters’ brunch is the headliner.
5:30 Henrietta Red oysters + cocktail. 6:30 Rolf and Daughters bar for pasta. 8:30 Black Rabbit cocktail. 9:30 Lyft to Printers Alley for the close at Bourbon Street.
Germantown is the right reset when Broadway burns you out. Book a restaurant 3 weeks out. Treat it as a different city for one night. You’ll come back to Broadway with fresh ears.
